Monroe, Marilyn (1926–62), U.S. actress;

born Norma Jean Mortenson; later Norma Jean Baker.

Her movie roles, largely in comedies,

made her the definitive Hollywood sex symbol.

Her husbands included Arthur Miller and Joe DiMaggio.

She is thought to have died of an overdose of sleeping pills.
